You can start using the Opentrader demo account by simply entering your name, email address and setting a password on the sign-up page. From there, to trade for real, you can choose to open a fully-fledged Opentrader account.

The account opening process will vary slightly depending on whether you live in Australia or overseas and the type of account you’re opening.
Applying from Australia with Australian ID 🦘
Once signed into your demo account, simply hit “Open Account” at the top of the page to kick off the online application process.
Decide which account type is right for you:
- Superannuation fund
If you’d like to open a Minor Account we have more info about that too.
Make sure you have your ID to hand
- Australian Driver’s Licence or
- Australian Passport
To make sure your account is opened safely, we verify ID using digital verification services, Green ID and Equifax.
Sometimes, there may be a mismatch between the information you’ve given us and the information that’s on the database we verify against. If this happens, we’ll get in touch to ask you for some different ID / documentation to get your account sorted.
HINs (Holder Identification Numbers)
When you open an account with us, by default, we’ll create a new HIN for you. We can also transfer your existing HIN to Opentrader as part of the account opening process. Basically, if you’d like to do this, you’ll need to email us a form along with your application.
Linked cash account 💰
We use the linked cash account to settle your trades with Opentrader. The cash accounts are integrated with Opentrader, which allows for a pretty slick trading experience ⚡️
We use approved provider, ANZ - we’ll create an account for you when you sign up to Opentrader. If you’d like to use a Macquarie Cash Management account, we can link that for you instead.
All accounts must have a linked cash account with one of our approved providers, unless settling to an existing Leveraged Margin Loan Account.
And you’re done! 🎉
Submit your application. Once we’ve verified your ID and opened your linked cash account, you’re good to go! We’ll email you all the details.
What if I’m living in Australia with international ID?
You can still start your application online, the same way as above. Your account won’t be classed as “international” and you won’t have to pay any account opening fees.
At the moment, the online application form only accepts Australian ID details. So, when you get to this step, please get in touch with the team and we’ll be able to help get you verified another way.
Make sure you have your ID at the ready to send to our team:
- International Passport
- International Driver’s Licence or Medicare card
- Utility bill – dated within the last 3 months
